Boracay island - white sandy beaches, secluded shell beaches, beaches enclosed by weathered walls of rock, beaches with hidden coves mystically known to be hiding treasures; seven days a week nightlife fro bars to lounges to wild parties under the open skies; plenty of water sports, hotels and resorts to suit all budgets- there is something for everyone on this tiny island in the Philippines located approximately 313 km south of Manila.
Beyond its beaches the island continues to undergo unchecked growth. New multi- million dollar companies rub shoulders with small tin shacks selling sea shells and exotic resorts share space with small boarding houses.
A day in the island starts with beautiful sunrise and the night is welcomed with the sun slipping across a pale sky, making a gentle landing on the horizon and colouring the water orange. The beach then comes alive with music and fire dancers twirl their batons and you can only marvel at their dexterity.
There are too many things to do at Boracay making you wish for more than 24 hours in a day. Listed below are few of the things you can start off with:
Island hop
The island is home to more than a dozen undeveloped beaches, turquoise waters and colourful coral reefs, Take a boat trip tour to hop the islands with stop-overs at different tiny islands. Once onthese island you can go snorkeling and swimming in the crystal waters. Get a glimpse of the thriving sea life and discover the islands on foot. Make sure to visit the Crystal Cove Island and enjy the breath taking views while trekking to the caves and coves and explore the natural beauty of rock formations and crystalline sea water. You will also come across Crocodile Island, a small uninhabited island resembling the head of a crocodile. Current can be fierce and it's advisable to look at the island from a distance. It is a gently sloping wall with several canyons and caves containing a wide diversity of fishes. These tours usually include lunch.
Snorkel
Snorkeling is one activity that is worth taking in the Boracay for sea lovers. Different from diving, the activity entails floating on the water face down with goggles on to see the beautiful coral gardens underneath. You can also feed exotic fishes with your hands and feel them nibble on you fingers.
Sunset cruise
have a cozy romantic moment on a sunset cruise on a Paraw ( a wind driven sailboat). Get the best view of the world renowned Boracay sunset with stunning fire dancers dancing to live music. Open that bottle of Bordeaux or Chardonnay or better still that rare vintage bottle of Dom Perignon. This set up is perfect for you pop that question to your beloved and a 'yes' is instantly guaranteed.
Walk along the white Beach
White Beach is the centre of action on the island with its white powdered sugar sand. Many things happen at the same time on the stretch of the beach. There are amazing restaurants lined up along the beach which turn into night clubs close to midnight. The White Beach is divided into station 1,2 and 3. The entire beach is paralleled by a sandy pedestrian highway- the white Beach Path- where motorized vehicles are officially banned and shoes informally so.
Experience Zipline and Zorb
Zip down above a tropical jungle to a private white sand blue beach or rol up-side down inside a giant bubble ball and roll down a hill. This will be a thrill you've never experienced before. It leaves you breathless but it's worth the while.
Watch out for the bats!
Bats with up to four feet of wingspan are a common sight in the northern tip of the island. It is home to a bat cave that houses golden crowned flying fox and variable flying foxes. The bats can be seen flying during sunset. If you are the adventurous type you venture into the caves but not without a guide.
Shake your tail feathers
The clock strikes 11 pm and restro bars turn into clubs. The tables and chairs move away to make space for a dance floor. The dance floor is often extended to the beach outside. Head down to the beach for a night of endless fun. Join the pub crawlers and hop into more than ten clubs in one night. If this does not catch your fancy thin grab a weng weng cocktai, sink into the waterfront beanbag chair and just marvel at the spectacle of it all.
